Although Animas Forks is accessible in 2WD vehicles, this popular ghost town is a crossroads for a number of fabulously scenic 4WD routes. It’s a convenient and rewarding side trip from U.S. 550—the famous San Juan Skyway—between Silverton and Ouray. It’s usually accessible by Memorial Day.
